I <3 Cities
Listening to
a guitarist play Sade sunlight is pouring in
on the tram we rattle
through,
places to change my life and
it is not Sunday but
I think thank God, thankful for this –
Though my natal city lives,
in me and through my voice,
I recognise this place
as much as the one I left,
however love has made me
so far in this far-off world,
the blue of the sky is solid
when the bay opens out for us,
I watch the city children
walk, go on and stop,
I am among them walking
to the end of the round green headland;
Before the bridge I call you
again as the day turns round,
I call you back again, and the day turns round,
again –
